World Reacts to Election of Barack Obama

In homes and on streets across the United States, Americans celebrated the election of the first African-American president as a significant event in U.S. history.

Democrat Barack Obama, the son of a white woman from Kansas and a black man from Kenya, is scheduled to take the oath of office January 20, 2009.





Crowds Electrified by Obama Win

Crowds spontaneously wept, cheered and danced in the streets of Washington, D.C. as they embraced news of Barack Obama's historic victory as the next president of the United States (watch video below).
