David Jacobson was nominated by President Barack Obama to become the United States Ambassador to Canada on June 5, 2009 and was confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate on September 23, 2009. On September 25, 2009 he was sworn in at the Department of State as a U.S. Ambassador. On October 2, 2009 he presented his credentials in Ottawa and became the 22nd United States Ambassador to Canada.
